Cliff Towne #5450

  • Hall of Fame Class: 2020
  • PDGA #: 5450
  • Birth Year: 1954
  • Hometown: Los Angeles, California, USA

Cliff hails from California where he has played and pioneered disc sports since 1975. Ultimate and disc golf were always part of his activities as he moved up and down the coast. He played with the Santa Barbara Condors (’75 to ’79) and the Berkeley Flying Circus (’79 to ’81), two of the best Ultimate teams of that time.

In 1981 Cliff settled in the Los Angeles area where he continued his pursuit of disc sports but spread out to other areas beyond playing. In 2006 his grassroots efforts resulted in the installation of the first disc golf course in the city limits of Los Angeles proper. His list of disc golf accomplishments is long and diverse including tournament director, youth coaching, and course design. While engaged in all of that he has also compiled an impressive list of tournament wins.

While busy with many ‘local’ disc golf goals and projects Cliff also made significant contributions to the PDGA. Most notable are as Editor of the PDGA Course Directory and Coordinator of the PDGA’s Affiliate Club Program, both of which he continues to devote time and energy to today. He also helped chronicle course development resources available on the PDGA website.

Cliff’s philosophies revolve around helping to get things done and working with people. That is quite evident in the rich and full pages of history that make up the body of disc golf work accomplished, and why he is so deserving to be a member of the Disc Golf Hall of Fame.
