Hayden Henry Joins Discgolfer Magazine as Contributing Editor

Tuesday, February 4, 2020 - 13:59

Discgolfer Magazine is pleased to announce the hiring of Hayden Henry, PDGA #32725, as contributing editor.

Henry holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Stephen F. Austin State University and is a full-time sports writer at the Longview News-Journal in Longview, Texas. His first work with that publication came on the news desk, and in 2012 he transitioned into covering everything from high school football to other professional sports in the Lone Star State. He has since compiled several accolades, including Texas Associated Press Managing Editor and Sports Editor awards.

"It's easy to find things such as stats and tournament results online these days. While reporting on those things is still important, I've always worked to find and tell the stories of athletes beyond the stats or wins," Henry said. "My goal is to do the same at DiscGolfer Magazine, from the top touring professionals through the behind-the-scenes contributors that continue to grow the sport of disc golf."

Henry's own disc golf story, meanwhile, is like so many others. His grandmother lived near a course, and one summer afternoon he and some friends went out for a round.

"Then I went back the next day and was hooked," he said. Henry is now the club president for the Longview Disc Golf Association, a group that is currently working on installing a third 18-hole course in town and is set to host its first B-Tier on March 7.

Henry is filling the DiscGolfer position vacated by Matt Rothstein, who recently took on the role of PDGA Media Specialist. DiscGolfer Senior Editor Joe Feidt said he's excited to bring someone with Henry's experience into the fold.

"Our magazine team is pleased to have Hayden on board and look forward to working with him," Feidt said. "We are so fortunate to have a full-time sportswriter and passionate disc golfer on staff. Welcome, Hayden!"

Henry's first bylines will appear in the Summer 2020 issue of DiscGolfer.
