CBD Product Use Policy at PDGA Events

Last updated: Tuesday, June 27, 2023 - 10:29

On February 14, 2023, the PDGA Board of Directors approved an update on the policy concerning the use of CBD products during PDGA-sanctioned events.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound derived from the hemp or cannabis plant. Products containing CBD are becoming increasingly available to the general population in the United States and other countries.

Use of CBD isolate products that are lab-tested and certified to contain 0% THC is permissible by competitors during PDGA-sanctioned tournaments. Use of full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD products is not allowed at any PDGA-sanctioned event. CBD isolate products which are inhaled (for example, through vape pens or smoking flower) must follow the same restrictions as per PDGA policies, rules and competition guidelines on tobacco use. Should it be discovered that a competitor is in violation of this policy, they may face penalties up to and include disqualification.

In addition, the use of CBD products at PDGA-sanctioned events must comply with all federal, state or local laws and regulations of their respective countries. Competitors who live in or are traveling to or through jurisdictions other than where they received the CBD product are solely responsible for knowing and following all laws related to the possession, consumption, and transport of CBD products during such travel or in their destination jurisdiction. The PDGA and the event hosts are not liable if competitors transport CBD products to, or possess or use them in, any other jurisdiction in a manner that is unlawful. For example, in 2022, a competitor may lawfully have received CBD isolate with 0% THC in California, but transporting that product to Singapore, Qatar, or Bolivia would have been unlawful.
