Since 2013 the Murrieta Rattlers Disc Golf Club has brought the foliage problem under control and maintains the course. There are now multiple tee pads and baskets at many tees, along with benches, paths, stairways and signage with QR codes. The club members have worked very hard to create a very enjoyable disc golf community at Mountain Pride Park. There is no water and only portable toilets and changing the plumbing at this point is not possible. Most of out events are posted at DGU or DGS. Please join us at one of our bag tag events or Snake Oil Series!

So much has changed at this course. The Murrieta Rattlers and Glenn Maxine Duncan have done, and keep doing an amazing job with this course. They are always welcoming for players to come and enjoy this park. They also run some amazing events. The course can be challenging depending on the layout and conditions. It gets windy! Being sunscreen and plenty of water.

This Course gets 5 chains not only because it is a great course to play but for the love it gets. Glenn, Maxine, so many other rattler and TVDG members put so much work into making this course great. Constantly adding new signs, more baskets, better tee pads and so on and so on. This course is more well maintained than pay to play courses. The Tee pads are better than famous courses such as La Mirada or Oak Grove. They really set the Standard here and more Disc golf Courses should follow suit.

This is my home course and our local club is very active improving it. We have some new concrete t-pads, also new tee locations for 15 long and 18 short. This is a challenging course that is played thru a canyon behind the park. Wear shoes with good footing as you will be walking both up & down many dirt trails. Avery Jenkins remarked on a visit, "It's a little rugged" and that describes it well. There are long and short pads on 13 holes,1,2,4,5,6,8,9,13,14,15,16,17 & 18, and multiple pin placements on 8 holes, 4,5,6,8,10,11,12,& 16. The guys I play with, like to mix it up by varying all long or all short or flipping a putter to decide each hole. Add in different pin placements, the abundance of vegetation ready steal a stroke or two, the wind that kicks up regularly in the afternoon, and you've got yourself infinite challenges that would satisfy even the most seasoned player. There is a course map posted on the community bulletin board at the parking lot and if you take a photo with your smart phone you will have no problem working your way through this course (or print the one here and take it with you). There are new Tee Posts (Sept 2014) that have the distances & placement of each pin marked. Each basket has signs to show you to the next Tee. I play here at least a couple of times a week and love it!!! A mandy right on 7 with a raised basket, and one btwn. 2 trees on 14 long. The only OB is 'anywhere inside the fence of the softball fields'. No signs YET but they are certainly on the list, as well as ongoing continued improvements performed and funded by the club. The city maintains 2 porta potties at the parking lot. The course has benches and trash cans throughout the canyon (not every hole yet) The club currently, does weekly Doubles on Saturdays and Monthly on the last Saturday. I gave it a 4, but I think of our course as a 5 because I play it so much and see the beauty of the challenge. When it has proper signage, and ALL the t-pads are improved (currently doing a fund raiser project for them), (and they will get there) it will be a candidate for a 5! Definitely a "must play" course.

Pros: The Murrieta course is not your typical green fairways and wide open shots. The course presents refreshing obstacles between you and your par score.

For advanced players, the course offers multiple levels of difficulty that include blind shots, unpredictable wind conditions, long basket positions, and technical shots. If you have played the courses in socal the course seems to be a mix of Brengle Terrace and Huntington Beach. The local club has added multiple pin positions so if you play the course a few times a month you will play different layouts often.

The course has a few holes where you can let loose and bomb your discs (a couple 400+ft and an almost 500ft). You'll almost certainly find yourself using your technical skill to layup or get out of the rough--which there is a good amount of.

If you live in SoCal and play disc golf you should be able to say you played Mountain Pride. Even better if you finish under par.
Cons: While it's a fun course for both beginners and advanced players - beginners can get caught off guard if they try to play from the long tee pads. Highly suggest starting from the short pads and getting used to the course layout and basket positions.

For those who are older and want something more level, this course could be hard on you. The course provides a hiking-like experience and you will go up and down a few times.
Other Thoughts: There is a map near the baseball field posted on the board for people new to the course. The worst thing you can do is start at the wrong pad and start throwing. You will lose a disc or two. This is the only complaint I've heard about the course and typically it's from people who don't know which pad to throw from. The course is a challenging one and if you don't have the arm to throw then start from the short pads and have fun!

This course is still in its infancy and already among the most challenging in Southern California. The local club has worked hard to maximize the tight area and continue to make improvements. With 18 holes (11 with long and short tees and 11 with multiple pins) it can present a challenge to any level and still fun for the novice if he chooses to play from the short pads. This course rewards fairway play and with short tight shots, long narrow fairways, a couple of bomber holes, most of which is flanked by nasty deer brush and river willows. If you are unfortunate enough to miss the fairway you will face a tough shot (or possibly more) to get to the hole. It rewards good shots and punishes bad ones. The most unique and varied course around. I gave it a 4 because of the length (over 6000), shot variety (several with only one or two windows yet many options on how to put a disc through them) and overall challenge with only the rubber pads and the lack of signage detracting from what will eventually be a 5.

In the past six months a lot of course improvements have been made due to the very active local club. There have been 11 new pin locations created and a lot of foliage has been trimmed and sculpted to create one of the most challenging courses in Southern California. * I had to rate a 5 because of the unwarranted 1 chain rating; this course is a 3-4 chain course, hands down...

Reading the other review of this course I almost skipped this course but instead brought a machete for all of the hardcore foliage. Boy was it unnecessary. Yes there are some bushes but nothing like I've experienced on the east coast. If you're in the area this canyon course is a nice change of pace. The reason I only gave this course 3 stars is the lack of signs (take a picture of the map at the entrance before playing) and the rubber tees.

Hands down the worst foliage situation in Southern California. This park has a lot of potential but a good experience is at least a few years out. Not for beginners and pros should bring their best spotter. Unless you've got tons of extra discs you don't mind parting ways with, don't go there.
