Seneca Creek State Park

This is my home course. Having a course of this caliber 10 minutes a way has spoiled me. I have a hard time forcing myself to go anywhere else except to compete. Unless your a local (and maybe even then) you'll have a different course to play every time. The baskets rotate on most holes between 3 pin positions and there are 2 to 3 tees on each hole. Each loop has its own theme. Front 9 is tighter and wooded for the most part. The back is open with a little more distance and the fastest playing. The middle is the longest with a great mix of accurate lines, left side OB creeks and booming drives. You have lots of choices of throws to complete each hole but if you want to compete with the big boys you better have an arsenal of throws in your bag because certain holes definitely favor throws other than back and forehands. The park fee is only on the weekends from spring to Nov. Since Covid the course has seen a lot more traffic which is great for the sport but you probably won't get to cruise through like previous years. The course always looks amazing in large part do to the efforts of our course caretaker "Mr. Bill". If you see an older gentleman out working on the course say hi and thank him for his work or better yet give him a hand for a few minutes.

An easy 5-link rating.

This course is beautiful, and brilliant. Beautiful shots in and out of woods. Very well maintained. As confusing as it can be at times, the layout makes sense and there are lots of arrows on the trees pointing you to your next tee pad. The 9-hole loop design works great and is laid out wonderfully. Not much thick underbrush as well, so it'd be tough to lose a disc here.

Pros: Natural beauty, excellent signage, excellent layout, well-maintained course, well-marked baskets.

Cons: lots of gnats, can be busy at times, and there's an entry fee of $3/$5 for the park. WORTH IT.

** I've only played this course once, and although it was fairly busy, people were considerate and I was able to play through the few times I came up to a group. But there is plenty of space for everyone here. Also, the tee pads aren't the greatest, but I've played on WAY worse, so I'm not listing them as a Con for the course.

Even if you have to drive 20 or 30 miles to play here, DO IT. There are 6 or 7 other courses that are closer to me which I will pass up without a second glance to play this course.

This is the first course that I played after moving to MD. I gave this course 4 stars for a few reasons. Great Course but a few changes and this course would be a "5" in my book!

Pros:

Great layout and a brilliant design to have a 27 hole course with 3 9-Hole loops all ending back at the parking lot. Great change in play with a variety of holes. This is not a course for just a Righty or Lefty. Great Doubles tourneys on Tuesday I believe and there is a great group of DG players. Some Very Very good Pro's to learn from. The Course is so big that I never have found myself getting backed up or even playing through a group. The Park Office also sells a variety of discs and merchandise and they have a great lost and found program so if you lose one out there just check back in a few weeks to see if someone picked it up.

Cons:

The first time I played this course I loved it but a few things that I didn’t like. First the Parking is "ok". On the day to day basis the parking is fine but can get over crowded and have to park on the grass. But on a doubles tourney or a PDGA event parking is crazy! I did get word from a park ranger that they are building new parking connecting to the original lot but I don’t know when it will be done. I also didn’t like the small pads. Some are decent sized and some are so skinny. I feel like I worry too much about if I'm on the pad or not than my actual throw. There is a lot of deer out there but they don’t care that your there. They don’t mind it so much that I have hit a few (on accident of course) and they don’t even move. Bugs can be crazy in the summer!!! Some people bring face nets and I know I bring a bottle of bug spray with me at all times. It gets so bad that I have to swat them away from my face seconds before I putt or all I see is a black flying mob in front of my face.

Conclusion:

Don’t think because my cons paragraph is longer than my pros that this is a bad course. This is a great course and I would recommend any Disc Golfer to play this course to see what a great variety of holes they have. And be prepared to take a few hours to play. The holes are very long and if you’re not used to playing consistently long courses be warn your arm will hurt in the morning!
