Tittabawassee Trails

If you find yourself anywhere in the Saginaw Valley, make sure to visit the disc golf course at Tittabawasee Park in Freeland Michigan. This is my favorite of all the 6 courses within the area, all located in about a 25 mile radius. Possibly Tittabawasee Trails is my favorite because it was the course I played daily when first being reintroduced to the game but more likely it's a favorite because of the technical demands, the water shots, the slight elevations and a great mix of challenges that flip back and forth from right to left, left to right, straight up the wooded fairways and a nice mix of short and long holes. The big arms usually are frustrated by only 3 holes exceeding 350 and often find that scaling down on distance a bigger challenge than throwing 400' in an open fairway. Hole #2 has a pond on the right that won't come in play unless you happen to have a bad hit off of a tree, something that happens way too frequently. Hole 3 demands a 220' shot over a big pond on your way to the basket on this, the longest of holes on the course. From that point you jump into the woods for a thrill ride. Hole 5 has a stream that skirts the left side of the left to right fairway, a stream that has water in it 80% of the time. The entire course has many ace runs but from experience I must tell you, Tittabawasee Trails doesn't give up any huge amounts of aces due to wonderfully designed tree lined fairways and great pin placement. Hole 18 will often add a bogey to your card. The Tittabawasee Park system has free concerts during the summer on many Wednesdays which makes for a nice backdrop of sound during the round on this course that is a common meeting place for all disc golfers within the Saginaw Valley. As with many courses, vandalism and trash has become an issue from time to time, usually the result of non playing, under age kids looking for a place to release their energy and consume the parents stolen beverages. The course gets weekly attention from the park workers and improvements and slight changes keep the course vital and worth a visit.
