Ohn Scoggins — the front-runner for the PDGA FPO Player of the Year — was introduced as the defending champion at the 2024 Disc Golf Pro Tour — Discraft Great Lakes Open presented by Gerrit J Verburg.

Both played up to their introductions on Thursday to open the four-round event at the famed Toboggan Course in Milford, Michigan.

Scoggins opened the DGPT+ event with at stellar 9-under round — rated 1015 and one of two bogey-free rounds in the field — on hills and rough of Kensington MetroPark. Scoggins was 9-for-9 from C1X, scrambled successfully three times, and parked five holes.

Heidi Laine and Hailey King, who set the early pace, are tied for second at 7-under. Kristin Tattar rounds out the lead card at 6-under with three bogies and is tied with Kat Mertsch and Holyn Handley. Missy Gannon, who also went bogey-free, rounds out the chase card at 5-under.

There were some hot starts in the MPO field on Thursday, but none more so than Robinson.

The two-time PDGA World Champion started a red-hot 10-for-10 and added two more birdies before his lone blemish of the day — a double bogey on 16, the third-hardest hole of the day. Robinson led in C1X putting (12-for-12), average putt length (23.7') and total putting distance (427') on top of three hits from C2.

Robinson leads Calvin Lonnquist, who also had 12 birdies, by one stroke. Lonnquist did his work off the tee, leading in strokes gained tee-to-green at 8.00.

Calving Heimburg sits in solo third at 8-under with one of three bogey-free rounds on Thursday (Austin Turner T4 and James Proctor T10). Simon Lizotte birdied Hole 18 in the dark after a lengthy lightning delay for MPO to round out the lead card at 7-under and in a six-way tie for fourth.
