The bar has been set at Nevin Park.

Bradley Williams opened the Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship presented by Barbasol with a 7-under par round to lead the four players who will move on to the quarterfinals.

Williams found a rhythm quickly with seven birdies in the first eight holes around a double bogey, which encapsulates the DGPT version of Nevin Park: big numbers can loom large in the tight woods.

Drew Gibson and Mason Ford followed with 6-under rounds and Niklas Anttila, who qualified for the DGPT Championship down the stretch of the season and comes in off a strong showing at the USDGC this past week, went 5-under to move on to Friday’s quarterfinal round.

No player went bogey-free and just Ford and Anttila had a single miscue on their scorecard in the 16-player field.

There will be no Cinderalla story from the first day this season as Jeremy Koling and Thomas Gilbert, who earned their spot at Wednesday’s play-in round, were both eliminated.

With their tickets punched, the four will join the 9-13 seeds today as the payouts and the pressure pick up at Nevin.

Scores will reset and the top four will extend their season into the weekend in Charlotte.
