Directors Poll: Week 9
Directors Poll: Week 9
Was 18-under enough to put McBeth at the top?
One round of 18-under par, or two rounds of 16-down?
That seemed to be the question heading into the most recent Directors Poll, as Paul McBeth was coming off his historic performance at the Great Lakes Open and Eagle McMahon made some personal history by winning his first career PDGA Major at the Konopiště Open.
Chalk up another win for The Bird, then, as McMahon used his power and consistency to move to the top of the Directors Poll for the second time this season. The real surprise here, though, is the standing of Ricky Wysocki: His fifth-place showing in the Czech Republic was enough to trump McBeth's late-tournament surge into third place. We'll say Wysocki was flashing those back-to-back PDGA World Champion rings this week.
In other news:
- Let's hear it for Seppo Paju. First, the 23-year-old Finn logged a career-best Major finish, as he smashed the Franz Ferdinand fairways to take fourth at Konopiště. While a few putts stood in the way of a podium finish, he certainly got our voters' attention.
- The same can be said for James Conrad, who also notched a fourth-place showing -- his came at the Great Lakes Open -- to continue his hold on a top 10 placement. He's well-positioned for a climb up the board as the season moves into the more friendly confines of the East Coast woods.
- Paige Pierce didn't need to play the Major to keep her grip on the number one spot in FPO. She's that good.
- While Eveliina Salonen matched McMahon with her first career Major -- and beat him by two years by getting it done at the ripe old age of 18! -- her Finnish compatriot Henna Blomroos wasn't able to make the cut. Keep an eye on her as European disc golf continues to get more coverage, though. She's the future.
We'll be back with another poll after the pros survive the rest of the Idlewild Open. Until then, here are the full standings:

I'm a little surprised there
I'm a little surprised there was no mention of Nikko L. He had a GREAT showing - rounds right behind Paul. I still believe he is in the top 20 - probably higher.
