PDGA Europe Volunteer and Players of the Year 2021

PDGA Europe is pleased to announce that Sweden’s Linus Carlsson and Estonia’s Kristin Tattar have won its prestigious PDGA Europe Player of the Year 2021 awards, based on their consistently stellar level of play throughout 2021. 

The PDGA Europe Volunteer of the Year is an active PDGA Europe member who has worked hard for the sport and Disc Golf Community in Europe. The award is a symbol of recognition for all the European volunteers. Congratulations to the five individuals nominated for PDGA Europe Volunteer Of The Year 2021. Unfortunately, there is only one winner. The five individuals nominated are as follows:

Votes cast by the combination of the PDGA Europe Board Of Directors and the PDGA Europe Staff returned Zoë Winfield as the PDGA Europe Volunteer Of The Year 2021 . . congratulations to Zoë Winfield on becoming PDGA Europe Volunteer Of The Year 2021.

In Zoë’s short 4Yrs Disc Golf Global Adventure, Zoë has demonstrated what others might have thought impossible resulting in others now having the courage to strive forward in pursuit of their Disc Golf Goals & Aspirations at a Personal Level, a Local Level and a National Level.

Zoë is Nottinghamshire Disc Golf Club (NDGC) Chair, UK Women’s Disc Golf Association (UKWDGA) Chair and was the Assistant Tournament Director at the WGE Event Quarry Park 2021 (PDGA Event ID 49546) that set two records a) most Women (total 34) at a UK Tournament b) first UK Tournament to secure eighteen unique Hole Sponsors (Belvoir Seeds UK . . ChainbangOfficial . . Discgolf Äänekoski Finland . . JomezPro . . UDisc . . Wāhi Tapu 2021 New Zealand).

Zoë was instrumental in transforming the Nottinghamshire Disc Golf Scene from a small bunch of infrequent players to a thriving engaged community of both existing and new players (includes both Women and Juniors). Also, Zoë was instrumental in securing Nottinghamshire’s Inaugural Permanent Disc Golf Course. Local Clubs (both Existing and New) have copied the Nottinghamshire Disc Golf Club Model with Zoë giving her time to help them succeed. At a National Level, Zoë (in partnership with Carole Findlay #145519), has transformed the UK Disc Golf Scene for Women of all ages and all abilities . . Zoë and Carole continue to make it happen for Women. The UKWDGA exited their first year of operation in 2021 with +60 Paid Members, a myriad of Supporters (DGPT . . DiscDot . . PDGA . . UDisc . . Uplay . . Upper Park Disc Golf® . . Whale Sacs ) and a Membership Benefits Package to rival any Organisation.

Zoë works full time in Pest Control, is both a Mother and Grandmother, was PDGA Member Spotlight 09-Jan-2022 and represented Team GB at the EDGF 2021 European Masters Disc Golf Championship FP40 Division.

Zoë demonstrates what is beyond possible.

PDGA Europe Player of the Year is an individual competition governed by PDGA Europe to recognize the overall best European player performance in disc golf in a calendar year. These highly contested awards are based on a number of criteria, including end of year player rating, place of finish at PDGA Elite Series, the European Championships, and A-Tier Events.

Tattar’s 350 points topped Finland’s phenoms, 2021 European Championships gold medallist Henna Blomroos (280), and 2 time PDGA Europe Player of the Year Eveliina Salonen (260). Carlsson finished with 290 points to best the 2021 European Champion Niklas Anttila (287,5) from Finland, and the 2021 Finnish Champion Väinö Mäkelä (240).
