2017 Bob West Memorial Award for Sportsmanship Nominees

Last updated: Monday, June 18, 2018 - 18:40

Paul Ulibarri #27171

He is a stand up guy on and off the course. Is always up to teaching new people new techniques. And has strong love for the game

Paul Ulibarri is one of the most stand up guys on tour!  His professionalism, even when not performing well, shines through.  He takes time to engage fans and can make an entire card feel at ease.  I feel that he is a great choice for the Bob West Sportsmanship Award!

Nominated by Allen Stewart #47486 & Keith Murray #15668

Nate Sexton #18824

Nate Sexton exemplifies what it means to be a good citizen of the game on and off the course. If you poll the top professionals, state coordinators, and PDGA staff and ask them to name the smartest, classiest player on tour, Nate Sexton’s name rises to the top. Nate always speaks highly of others. He wins with class and loses with dignity. He teaches others skills and etiquette. He leads by example and always puts others ahead of himself.

Nominated by Justin Menickelli #31347

Jeff Mittl #25015

Jeff has been a good friend of mine for a long time. Back in 2009 when the Beaver State Fling was in flux and possibly becoming a memory Jeff stepped up along with Michael Phillips to bring the idea of our club, Stumptown Disc Golf taking over. With only a couple months to prepare, Jeff and Mike along with our amazing crew not only kept the tournament alive, but flourished. It’s only gotten better over the last ten years and Jeff has been instrumental in that. The work that goes into prepping the courses, lining up all the details, and coordinating with so many different people falls squarely on his shoulders and he handles it all with a great attitude and a smile on his face. I think Jeff exemplifies good sportsmanship in the way he carries himself as a professional player, a friend to everyone in our community and the best TD I’ve had the pleasure of working with heading into our tenth year of doing the Beaver State Fling as a crew. If there is a better sport around I’d love to meet them!

Nominated by Patrick Darr #30488

JohnE McCray #9852

JohnE always has a smile on his face and a kind word to share even when things aren't going his way. He always seems to strive for greatness and pushes others to do the same.
