At this year’s Fall Summit, the PDGA Board of Directors approved a sweeping update to the Disciplinary Process. This proposal was workshopped by the Board, staff, and Disciplinary Committee members, and the Board then made further changes in response to member feedback provided at the summit. The primary goal of these changes is to increase transparency and accountability through improved communication with our members.

In the relatively short lifespan of the PDGA, there has been a slow but steady trickle of misinformation on how player disciplinary issues are handled by the organization. Confusion has led to frustration, and even anger a few times. Some have even suggested an alternative disciplinary process for different professional tours. I will attempt to clear up some of this confusion about the PDGA disciplinary process and explain why the PDGA is as much of a players’ union as it is a governing body.

Recently, there have been questions raised in social media regarding the specifics of the PDGA Disciplinary Process. This process may not be well known, especially by some of the newer members. Now seems like a good opportunity to let our members review the system that has been in place since October 15, 2009. While no member wants to be personally involved in this part of the sport, unfortunately, there sometimes are circumstances that require oversight and intervention.
