Recap Article

With less than a handful of days to recover from the 2014 PDGA Amateur & Junior World Championships in Minnesota, we’ve got boots on the ground in Ft Steilacoom, WA, home of the sixth stop on the PDGA National Tour. The state of Washington is proud to be hosting its first ever NT event this weekend, the Ft. Steilacoom Open

The Disc Golf Association, Inc. (DGA) and the Memorial Championship presented by Discraft are happy to announce that DGA’s new Mach X Basket will be installed at Fountain Hills Park just in time for the kickoff of the 2014 PDGA National Tour Elite Series. The Memorial Championship is always the first stop on the National Tour bringing in hundreds of players and spectators from across the country.

The points totals for the 2013 National Tour Elite Series presented by Vibram can be found here.

The Beaver State Fling has produced some of the most dramatic moments and memories throughout the entire history of the PDGA National Tour.  If you were to create a recipe for an ideal disc golf event, you would start with a venue that combines groomed fairways, fairytale woods, and the gentle splashing of a trout river to provide the soothing sound bed background.  Then you would mix in a dedicated staff of volunteers, who take their responsibilities seriously and are given the proper tools to execute a stellar operational game plan.  Finally, you would top the Frisbee feast with a generous amount of talented throwers who could provide the right mix of disc golf drama and a display of dynamic personalities to entertain the passionate le

The word that comes to mind when the 2013 Beaver State Fling presented by Keen Footwear and Next Adventure is mentioned: elite. The field of competitors, the phenominal courses, the player’s packs, the camping, and last but absolutely not least, the hospitality and professional manner of Tournament Directors Jeff Mittl and Jeff Hagerty all make this event a staple on the National Tour Elite Series presented by Vibram.

Another National Tour Elite Series tournament concluded today as the last putt hit the chains at the Kansas City Wide Open presented by GripEQ. The final round was played at Swope Park DGC on the Missouri side of Kansas City. Swope Park itself is a true treasure of the Midwest. Amazing disc golf course, check. Zoo, check. Beautiful ball golf course, check. Outdoor concert venue, check. The park has it all, and today a gallery of 400+ gathered to watch some of the best disc golfers in the world take on the course in pristine condition.

The 2013 Kansas City Wide Open presented by Grip EQ kicked off today at the beautiful and infamous Waterworks Park disc golf course in Kansas City, MO.  The holes at Waterworks DGC are a unique blend of carved and manicured fairways, difficult elevation changes, awe inspiring views of the Kansas City skyline, and pin positions that can shake even the best of the best.

The Discraft Great Lakes Open wrapped up today on the toboggan course in Milford, MI marking the end of the 5th event in the 2013 National Tour Elite Series. Ricky Wysocki won his 3rd NT event of the year and Sarah Hokom won her second after a 3 day battle against Paige Pierce. With those wins, they both have a nice lead in the points series with only 3 events to go.

The 4th stop on the National Tour Elite Series came to an end today as the final putts hit the chains at the Hall of Fame Classic in Appling, GA. Rain, rain, and more rain pummeled the 3 courses at the International Disc Golf Center, not to mention the hundreds of competitors, for most of round 1, all of rounds 2 and 3, and the first half of the final round. If it wasn't sprinkling, it was pouring. There really was no in between.

All eyes were on the Doppler for most of the morning while preparing for day 2 of the Hall of Fame Classic here at the International Disc Golf Center. It wasn't a question of whether or not it was going to rain, it was when and how much. The first round started at 9:00AM (EST) with a field full of players carrying umbrellas, extra towels, dry socks, and a "maybe we'll get lucky and the rain will miss us" attitude. That optimism would only last a couple of hours, and it would never return.

The 2013 National Tour continues this week in Appling, GA with the Disc Golf Hall of Fame Classic presented by Prodigy Disc.  Due to last minute scheduling conflicts, players were asked to make a quick turn-around after last week’s National Tour event, the “Steady” Ed Master’s Cup in Santa Cruz, CA; seeing some touring players travel as much as 2,300 miles to attend this week’s event.

After 3 days of watching the best players in the world at the Steady Ed Memorial Masters Cup, I can tell you with confidence that DeLaveaga is truly one of the most challenging and brutal courses in the world, both mentally and physically. At the same time, it’s also one of the most awe-inspiring. Everything about DeLa  is so close to aesthetically perfect that it could and should be considered a work of art. It’s beauty is paired perfectly with its difficulty, and the combination brings out the best in those lucky enough to get to play it.

The 2013 National Tour Elite Series sponsored by Vibram Disc Golf features the top players in the Men’s and Women’s Open divisions as they compete in the fifth annual Drive for the Championship. This points based series consists of the first seven National Tour events plus the series finale, the Vibram Open. Points are awarded based on the competitor’s order of finish in an individual event.  Series points from a player’s top five National Tour finishes from the first seven events plus the points from the final stop on the tour, the Vibram Open, will determine the 2013 PDGA Tour Series Champion.

Saturday was moving day at the Beaver State Fling, presented by Keen Footwear, in Estacada, Oregon and there certainly was a fair amount of movement by many of the world’s top professional disc golfers in an attempt to put them in position for a run at the title in Sunday’s final round.

The Beaver State Fling, presented by Keen Footwear, teed off today under beautiful skies on the twin Riverbend courses at Milo McIver State Park in Estacada, Oregon.

Situated along the scenic Clackamas River only 45 minutes from Portland, the beautiful park should be on every serious disc golfers list of must-play courses. The event has garnered a national reputation for quality and consistency thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Stumptown Disc Golf Club and loyal support by local sponsors Keen, Next Adventure, and a host of others.

The 30th Kansas City Wide Open, teed off this morning under overcast skies and with unusually cool temperatures for this time of year in the Midwest.

Hosted by the inveterate Kansas City Flying Disc Club, this edition features an unprecedented five different and unique courses being played in the three day competition for the first time ever, making it arguably the most challenging test of mettle on the 2012 PDGA National Tour Elite Series, presented by Vibram Disc Golf.

The PDGA National Tour Elite Series presented by Vibram Disc Golf is hitting its stride. The 30th Anniversary of the Kansas City Wide Open, brought to you by the Kansas City Flying Disc Club, will take place on Friday, June 1st through Sunday, June 3rd, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kicking off with The Memorial Championship in Arizona, the 2012 PDGA National Tour Elite Series presented by Vibram Disc Golf looks to raise the bar for our marquis events.

Appling, Georgia--The Professional Disc Golf Association, along with presenting sponsor Vibram Disc Golf, is pleased to announce its 2012 PDGA National Tour Elite Series schedule and the Drive for the Championship.  Celebrating its tenth season, the PDGA National Tour looks to present the players, PDGA members, and the rest of the country with the highest caliber events our sport has to offer. The 2012 schedule features six events starting with The Memorial Championship at the end of February and culminates in mid-August at the Vibram Open.

This PDGA Elite National Tour event will again take place on Milo McIver State Park’s two beautiful 18 hole courses lining the banks of the magnificent Clackamas River in Estacada, Oregon. Due to changes in the National Tour schedule, the Beaver State Fling, which traditionally had taken place on Memorial Day weekend, has been moved to the weekend of June 24th - 26th.

The first event of the PDGA National Tour Elite Series has been completed and the Drive for the Championship presented by Vibram Disc Golf is officially underway.  The current standings can be found at:

The 2011 points race looks like to be an exciting year as we had two players who won their first ever National Tour event. Paige Pierce’s victory over Valarie Jenkins on the last hole gives her an early lead but Valarie did win last year’s “Drive for the Championship” and five National Tour events last year.
