United States Women's Disc Golf Championships Postponed to 2021

Friday, March 27, 2020 - 13:15

The 2020 PDGA United States Women’s Disc Golf Championships (USWDGC) have been postponed due to the uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was set to take place May 22-24 in Northern California.

The USWDGC is a unique event in that women from across the country and around the globe travel for the competition. Indeed, one of the most desirable aspects of the event is the ability to gather and celebrate these women disc golfers, and their health and safety are of the utmost importance. After discussions with tournament director Jennifer Knisley, as well as event partners and stakeholders, the most responsible choice at this time is to postpone for the well-being of all competitors and PDGA members.

“We are so sorry that this happened, but we know it is the right choice,” Knisley said. “We were excited to host women from around the world, and we look forward to the opportunity to do so in the future. We thank all of our sponsors and volunteers who have supported us through everything.”

As much as this was an incredibly heartbreaking decision to make, there is a silver lining: Knisley and her team will host the USWDGC in California in 2021. The local organizing committee headed by Mike Batka in Madison, Wisconsin, which was originally awarded the 2021 PDGA USWDGC, has graciously agreed to push back to 2022.

“As I began to see the situation unfolding in the United States, I contacted the PDGA on March 16 and offered to host the USWDGC in 2022 instead of 2021,”  Batka said. “As someone who has been running sanctioned tournaments since 2004, including a Major, I know firsthand how much time and effort are required to execute a really well-run event. We are all in this together.”

Knisley and her team have put in an incredible amount of work to prepare to host the USWDGC, and PDGA staff shares in their disappointment. Likewise, we feel especially pained for the Northern California community, as well as the record number of competitors who had their sights set on the event. We hope everyone who was ready to make the trip this year will join us in 2021.

2020 refunds will be handled by Final 9 Sports. Please be patient with refund requests, as the influx of transactions has slowed PayPal's processing time.

Although a date has not yet been selected for next year’s USWDGC, we will continue to monitor the situation and provide an update as soon as we can regarding future plans.
