Update to Mid-Event Suspension & Cancellation Guidelines Policy
Thursday, June 8, 2023 - 18:36
The PDGA has released an update to the Mid-Event Suspension & Cancellation Guidelines Policy. This policy, in conjunction with the PDGA Competition Manual (sections 1.07, 1.08, and 1.09), sets recommendations and requirements for how to handle situations that arise in the middle of an event that have an effect on the completion of a hole, round, or event. This policy goes into effect immediately.
Significant changes and additions to the policy include:
- Changes the required threshold for rounds to count as an official round. All common holes are included in the round, as long as at least 9 common holes have been played by all players within a division. The previous policy only allowed rounds to count if they were 9 holes, 13 holes, or full round. Note that ratings are only processed for rounds of 13 or more holes.
- Only in extenuating circumstances and with approval from the Director of Event Support, a partially completed round may be vacated or considered complete to proceed to the next round of the event.
- The name of the policy has changed; mid-event suspensions and cancellations can occur for a variety of reasons, not just weather.
- Pre-event guidelines that TDs can use to prepare for upcoming events.
- Safety website information such as heat-related illnesses, CPR, and AED.
- Helpful weather-related websites concerning flooding, lightning, high winds, heat, and air quality.
- Links to downloadable apps for TD’s regarding lightning.
- Minimum lightning distance for suspension of play.
- Presents the decision process for cancellations.
- Estimated timetables for tee and shotgun starts.
- Focuses on having TDs utilize the Event Support Team for questions.
