The Beaver State Fling presented by KEEN is widely known as a “can’t miss” event, each and every year. The combined beauty and difficulty of the Riverbend Disc Golf Courses housed within Milo McIver State Park is enough to pique the interest of most, but the quality of the event itself is what really sets it apart. The staff, volunteers, sponsors, and vendors all join forces to put on a tournament that is so good, in every way, that whether or not you will come back for it again the following year isn’t even a question.
Only one round of the 2016 Beaver State Fling presented by KEEN remains, and it’s shaping up to be yet another nail-biting finish on the 2016 PDGA National Tour. Coming off a tough loss on the final hole to Paul McBeth #27523 at the European Open last weekend, Ricky Wysocki #38008 moved into the lead after Round 2 and has continuously held off his opponents, despite incredible efforts and miraculous feats.
It’s rare these days to see two rounds in one day at a PDGA National Tour event. At the Beaver State Fling presented by KEEN, no one seems to mind. After all, two rounds in one day means more time spent at Milo. A few extra hours playing disc golf at one of the most scenic and challenging courses on the planet -- who would complain about that?
One person you definitely won’t hear complaints from, Ricky Wysocki #38008. Ricky’s first round of 54 (-7) on Milo West left him in a three-way tie for 3rd, as Nate Sexton #18824 and Devan Owens #25168 both finished one stroke better at 53.
Estacada, Oregon embodies the definition of small town, America. With an area of just 2.06 square miles, a population of 3,000, and an economy almost entirely dependent on lumber, it’s hard to believe that such a small place has such an enormous role in the sport of disc golf. The reason is short and simple – Milo.
