With thunderstorms forecasted for the final round of the 2016 Kansas City Wide Open all week, all we could do was wait and watch the weather with our fingers crossed. Players that teed off in the morning got to play their final round at Swope Park under a clear, sunny sky. The afternoon tee time groups…not so much.
With only one round to go, the 34th Kansas City Wide Open is living up to its rich history as one of the longest running disc golf events in the world. Ricky Wysocki #38008 and Catrina Allen #44184 have been in the lead since the end of Round 1 and they’ll be looking to seal the deal tomorrow to win their first and third PDGA National Tour events of 2016, respectively.
It’s difficult to put into words just how enormous the disc golf course at Blue Valley Park in Kansas City, Missouri is. In its longest layout, the course distance surpasses 11,000 feet in just 18 holes, making it the single longest permanent disc golf course in the world. In the modified layout being played for the first Round of the 34th Kansas City Wide Open, it’s still one of the longest courses in the world, measuring in at 9,800+ feet with a par of 65.

Not even a week has passed since the last putt hit the chains at the 2016 Dynamic Discs Glass Blown Open and we’re already set up for the next stop on the National Tour, the 34th running of the Kansas City Wide Open (KCWO). It’s shaping up to be a great weekend, with beautiful weather in the forecast and the courses in pristine condition.
