As he stood on the 18th green Sunday afternoon at the Preserve Championship with 25 feet between him and victory, it was fair to wonder where Nikko Locastro’s head was at. Just one hole before, the Missouri native had made a last-second disc switch and laid up from 50 feet, and all day he’d been mired in the passionate, yet sometimes negative self-talk he’s grown to be known for throughout his 15-year pro career.

With a laser-like drive, a skip off the hard-pack green, and an oh-so-friendly roll, Calvin Heimburg was left with a tap-in eagle to close out his second round at the Preserve Championship Saturday afternoon.

Whether it’s due to offseason rust or the style of courses played in the early stretches of the pro disc golf season, James Conrad hasn’t traditionally been one for fast starts.

The second of two new Disc Golf Pro Tour events finds the PDGA's Elite Series returning to Minnesota for the first time since 2016. But instead of the sport's finest shredding the hallowed Blue Ribbon Pines – the annual home of The Majestic, which was last on the circuit in its inaugural season but has yet to return – a new North Star State venue will take center stage.

And by new, we mean new.
