2014 PDGA Am & Jr Disc Golf Worlds Courses

The Twin Cities has enough quality courses already in the ground to match any metro region in the World. The long tees on most courses were designed for the PDGA Blue (Advanced) Skill level and several also have a shorter layout with concrete tees. These courses are currently ready to host an Amateur & Juniors World Championship with only a few modifications or improvements required. Six 18-hole courses and one 24-hole course (tweaked to 18 holes) will be used this year. Each division will play at least four different courses during the six preliminary rounds before the cut for the semifinals.

Kaposia and The Valley are listed first as the flagship courses located just 7 minutes apart. Both are located in sister communities, South St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights. Headquarters is at the Clarion Hotel in South St. Paul, located between these two courses. All the courses are within a half-hour drive from this location, using I-494 to easily access most of the courses. Four of the courses we’re using were also used for the 2001 Pro World Championships and all seven have been improved or enhanced to help showcase the diversity of disc golf courses in the area. 

Semifinals will utilize multiple courses. All divisions that have a minimum of 16 players will have a cut with the top competitors playing in a semifinal.

Finals will be played Saturday afternoon on a temporary course set up on the Como Park open area. Como Park is the most visited park in Minnesota, hosting over one million unique visitors each year. Como is centrally located in the heart of Saint Paul, has a zoo with 25 animal habitats, a one-acre (under glass) conservatory with six indoor gardens, and three outdoor gardens that annually manages 50,000 plants from 1684 separate varieties. Spectator numbers will be high as the top competitors finish their finals.

Blue Ribbon Pines Disc Golf Course

BRP, as it’s affectionately known, is one of our best courses in the region. However, it's about an hour from tournament central. We’ll be hosting a 27-hole divisional round for the Legends as well as ancillary events there on the Saturday leading into Worlds. Players will have the option to experience this course that has become nationally renowned for its beauty and landscaping. It's a mix of open and wooded trails with ponds, doglegs, abundant risk/reward and signature holes. 100' tall pines. BRP tests every aspect of your game. A concession shack at a halfway point make this course a fun  trek.

Bryant Lake

This beautiful, multiple hillside course has perhaps the best landscaping you'll find on a course anywhere with an awesome shot 500'+ off a cliff. However, even in its longest setup the course is primarily an intermediate level challenge which has made it one of the most popular on the west side of the Twin Cities. Course has several dual concrete tee or pin combinations. Cement tees on all holes 

C.P. Adams Park Disc Golf Course

This might have been the favorite course of the big arms at PW2001. It's mostly open with trees in strategic positions. It can be set with tricky OB like the USDGC. Dual concrete tees. Always well mown, it's our best course for rollers. It would be one of our courses farthest from tournament central but can be paired with nearby Oakwood for player convenience. 

Kaposia Park Disc Golf Course

This scenic and challenging championship course incorporates elevation and wooded fairways in abundance. One of the four courses used in PW2001, this 24-hole course will be set up for 18 holes. Multiple pin placements will allow tailoring for the best flow and scoring for the divisions playing it. One set of concrete tees. 

Kenwood Trails Disc Golf Course

This course is the newest addition to the mix of the Twin Cities 18-hole courses. This beautiful rolling terrain course on middle school grounds is maintained jointly with the Parks Dept. The course has a surprising amount of elevation changes with the highest to lowest point on the course at over 90 feet of elevation. There are two targets on each hole with dual tees on 15 of them providing four different permanent layouts. More than half the holes are completely in the woods, but fairways are mostly generous. Up to five temporary tee/pin placements will add 4 shots to the basic Blue layout SSA as planned for Worlds. Dual concrete pads were completed in 2013. 

Lions Park Disc Golf Course

Shakopee’s Lions Park is home to a well-mowed course with a gradual slope to a pond. Built in 2004, trees were added in strategic locations and over the past ten years they have grown up and out to make formidable obstacles. Water hazards on a few holes. Dual cement tees on most holes. 

Oakwood Park Disc Golf Course

An earlier version of this course was played in PW2001. Half the holes are relatively open and the other half play through a wooded canopy. Several tricky doglegs have earned this course the nickname of ‘Strokewood’. Dual tees with concrete on the long set. 

The Valley Disc Golf Course

This PW2001 course showcases unique terrain around the hillsides of a bowl-shaped valley with scenic views of many holes from several vantage points. At least one challenging pucker-power pond crossing is part of the water hazards. This course is rated as one of the toughest SSA in Minnesota. Dual set of Blue and Red concrete tees. 

2014 Am & Jr World Championships
