If you hadn’t had Silva Saarinen as a contender for the win at any tournament this season, she proved with her win to DGPT Europe Elite Series Swedish Open presented by Kastaplast that you might want to rethink that notion.

Because her victory today at Ymergårdens Discgolfcenter in Borås has now taken her DGPT Europe win streak to an amazing 5! In a row, which also means that she is now a long way ahead of the rest in the DGPT Europe points standings.

Starting the tournament with a -1 round that placed her T2nd, she moved up to a T1st after R2. And with a -5 hot round on final day, despite being +1 after hole 3. But from thereon out she gave the spectators that high level of play that she has played at throughout the season.

And that can only add to the excitement for the upcoming Professional Disc Golf Association Majors, and at the moment she is definitely in contention, as she has proven herself against the best on several occasions.

And while Saarinen adds another win to her tally, fellow Finn Henna Blomroos, who played herself all the way to the top of the leaderboard yesterday, leaves Sweden with a 2nd place, finishing the final round in even par, as she heads north for Oslo and Krokhol Open in two weeks. And while she didn’t hold on to the lead today, she is no doubt still one to watch for the coming weeks.

In third place sits Ella Hansen, who most would have expected to be near the top of the field at the DGPT Europe Swedish Open, and she certainly didn’t fail to meet those expectations. While being some way off the lead in the end, she finished R3 in -1 which ended up being her score for the event. She now also heads to Oslo and Krokhol Open, where she definitely is also a player to watch.

With her round today the American overtook the 3x Islandic champion María Eldey Kristínardóttir, who found herself leading the FPO field after the first round with a wonderful -5 round. And although she struggled to find a similar level in the follow two rounds, she must still be happy having played 52 points above her rating this weekend.

And so, once again the European crowds have been treated with yet another exciting Disc Golf Pro Tour event in Europe, which only adds to the excitement for the remainder of the European Swing.

A FIRST DGPT WIN FOR PROCTOR

The DGPT Europe Elite Series Swedish Open presented by Kastaplast is over, and James Proctor is the newest champion to be crowned in Borås. Taking down his first ever Disc Golf Pro Tour win, the California native is the 7th champion of a DGPT Europe event out of just as many in 2024 in the MPO division. And with the field being stacked with world class talent this weekend, the European Swing proves to be as unpredictable as it is exciting!

Proctor is the second American to win in Europe this season, and his win at Ymergårdens Discgolfcenter comes after a weekend of showcasing his great talent and ability to hit lines. With only 5 bogeys for the weekend and birdieing over half of the holes he played, Proctor finished the event -24, three strokes clear of second place.

Proctor highlighted his ability to commit on drives off the tee and his 89% C1X and 60% C2X statistics for the final round was enough to fence off the other contenders.

And second place is crowded with three players finishing -21. First of them is Mauri Villmann who climbed up 4 spots on the leaderboard with a -9 final round, tied hot round of the day. Villmann is also the sole European on the podium, a performance that should fill him with belief going into the coming event, seeing as he shares the podium with some excellent players.

Tied with the Estonian is Joseph Anderson who also shot a -9 final round. Furthermore, Joey Buckets’, as he’s also known as, played the only bogey free round in the top 10 today, moving the American four spots up the leaderboard.

Both of them share 2nd place with 6x Professional Disc Golf Association World Champion Paul McBeth. The reigning Swedish Open champion started his European stint in usual fashion, tied for 1st after the 1st round. However, his 2nd round proved a touch too slow, and as he was even par after the first nine holes of the final round, he finishes in T2 despite blazing through the back 9 picking up 8 of the 9 birdies available.

And so, another chapter of the 2024 European Swing has drawn to a close, and while the players can now look forward to week's break before the next DGPT Europe heads to Oslo for the Krokhol Open.
