Sunday, September 11, 2022 - 09:22
The cut has happened, and the final push to take down a PDGA Major title is on in the Quad Cities.
Nineteen champions will be crowned on Sunday at the 2022 PDGA Tim Selinske U.S. Masters Championships, the 12th running of the vent that honors the late pioneer and ambassador of the sport.
There are several battles that will come down to the end at Camden Park.
Here’s a look at the storylines heading into Championship Sunday:
- Dutch Napier held onto the lead, but it shrunk on Saturday as defending Selinske champion Brad Schick and Alan Wagner cut it down to three strokes. Tyler Horne used the hot round of 45 to jump to the lead card, six strokes back of Napier.
- In FP40, Sarah Hokom applied pressure to Ohn Scoggins with the hot round in the division by two strokes, using strong play off the tee. Scoggins’ lead, however, remains at five strokes. Kimberly Giannola kept her spot on the lead card for the finale.
- Barry Schultz has grown his first-round lead of six strokes to eight strokes over Jay Reading. Schultz is 33-under on the weekend and heads back to Camden 2, where he has the second-hottest round of the week (45).
- If it wasn’t already locked, Juliana Korver secured her eighth PDGA Major with the hot round on Saturday. She leads by 17 strokes over Nova Pollite (+6). Barrett White (+10) and Sandy Gast (+17) round of the lead card.
- It’s a three-way race in MP55 with Pete Caldwell (-12) leading defending champion Doug Williams (-10) and Thomas Hausmann (-10).
- Eric Rainey bested the field by three strokes to take a 5-stroke lead over Mike Ward in MP60.
- In FP60, Pam Reineke continued to build her lead to eight strokes over Kathy Hardyman.
- Chuck Kennedy dropped a 990-rated round at Eastern Park on Saturday to pull into a tie for the lead with Geoff Hungerford. In third place is Joe Gill, who is just one stroke back.
- Will Russell’s 994-rated moving day left him sitting on the top of MA40 again. Chris Rooda matched that round to pull into second place, three strokes back.
- Melanie SanFilippo and Amy Meyer will continue their duel another day. On Saturday, SanFilippo took her one-stroke lead with the best score of the day in the division by four strokes in FA40.
- Ben Champion is holding steady at the top with a 10-under total and two-stroke lead in MA50. Steve Ganz is in second at 8-under and Jeffrey Romig sits as 7-under with 18 to go.
- Debbie Polkinghorne shot 51 points above her rating and leads by 10 strokes in FA50.
- In MA55, Tom Trinidad Jr. leads Scot Estep by three strokes.
- Roger Beachy has battled his way to the top in MA60 with a second-straight solid round. He leads Warren Foy and George Bodiroga by one stroke.
