Five new PDGA World Champions were crowned on Friday in Illinois, and each join an elite club in doing so.

From repeat champions to new faces, these five battled four rounds of disc golf throughout the Peoria area, including rain on the final day, and will forever be known as PDGA World Champions.

Here’s a look at Friday’s action from the 2022 PDGA Masters & Juniors Disc Golf World Championships:

They've battled and endured weather, fierce competition and some of the toughest courses that central Illinois has to offer.

Now it's time for the final push at the 2022 PDGA Masters and Junior Disc Golf World Championship.

Competitors will hit the course Saturday morning for the semifinal rounds after Friday's cut. From there the top four from most of the divisions will descend on Northwood Park for one last challenge: the final nine.

There are tight battles everywhere, both at the top of the leaderboard as well as near the cut for the finals to see who will get nine more holes in Peoria and who will push for a podium finish at a World Championship.

Day two of the 2022 PDGA Junior Disc Golf World Championships continued to produce scorching rounds throughout and the race to the podium is on heading into moving day.

There were red-hot rounds all over the tournament, including Henry Bente’s 1023-rated round in MJ16, another heater from Victoria Eriacho-Paul in FJ18 and a new co-leader in Colin Bryant in MJ15.

The phrase ‘it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon’ doesn’t apply anymore when a PDGA World Championship is on the line.

On Wednesday, the 287-player field at the 2022 PDGA Junior Disc Golf World Championships raced out the gates in the Peoria, Illinois area, kicking off a week of disc golf with a competitive opening day.

Some of the 10-division field played two rounds to start their championship and the others will see that schedule on Thursday. The courses were tough, like the Junior 18’s trek through Wildlife and Sunset Hills.

PDGA Semi-Finals and Finals Criteria for Worlds Competition

(as of registration on 7/10) v3

Semi-Finals Criteria

  • Depending on the overall field size, the semi-finals cut may range from 25 to 40 percent of the field.
  • Ties for the last position in the cut will be included in the semi-finals except for extremely large divisions where taking ties would oversubscribe the semi-finals course. (Example: a field of 288 would be cut to 72 Max.)

Divisions with fewer than 8 participants will not participate in the semi-finals round.
