It’s going to be a thrilling race to the top spot in College Disc Golf on Saturday.

The final day arrives at the 2022 College Disc Golf National Championship with tight races in both the men’s and women’s Division I team standings.

At the conclusion of Saturday, two teams from the record-breaking field at North Cove Disc Golf Club in Marion, North Carolina will emerge as champions and take bragging rights home to the respective universities.

The next few days for Robert Burridge are going to be a whirlwind.

It’s going to start with him celebrating his individual title at the College Disc Golf National Championship and then finishing up the week in Marion, North Carolina with his teammates.

Collin Thompson and his Illinois State teammates saw an Instagram post for a qualifier event for the College Disc Golf National Championship.

A week later, they officially formed a club and hit the road.

That led to Marion, North Carolina this week at the 2022 CDGNC and, after Thursday’s opening round of the Men’s Division I singles event, Thompson finds himself atop the leader board.

On the drive over from Arkansas, Whitney Brown was nervous.

That’s because she had a title to defend at the College Disc Golf National Championship against a bigger and stronger field.

After a nail-biting finish and a playoff, Brown, representing Southern Arkansas University, will make the drive back home with more hardware.

The record-setting field at the College Disc Golf National Championship was evident from the start on Wednesday.

Over 500 competitors gathered and were introduced during an energy-filled opening ceremony, complete with a message from veteran Paul Ulibarri, and then the action at the three-course complex at North Cove Disc Golf Club in Marion, North Carolina got started in a big way.

The journey to the College Disc Golf National Championship goes beyond strong play on the course.

It starts with organization and team building, literally.

Seventy-five universities from around the country will be represented this week at North Cove Disc Golf Club for the 2022 CDGNC, the first PDGA Major of the year.

Teams must not only build a competitive core of players, but must also go through the process of working with their universities to organize, grow and represent the school. This takes strong leadership on the part of the student athletes.

Just over eight months away, Bjerkaas and his team are feeling the responsibility that comes with serving as hosts of the 2022 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championship and it’s a task that they’re not taking lightly.
