Decade on Display

During a decade that saw disc golf’s continued growth and exposure to mainstream audiences, we saw, read, and heard plenty about players like Paul McBeth, Paige Pierce, Catrina Allen, and Ricky Wysocki -- but none of those champions top the list of most wins in the decade. Not even a Disc Golf Hall of Fame member like Elaine King could claim that mantle, nor could a regional stalwart like Brian Schweberger or his North Carolina cohort Barry Schultz.

The 2010s saw exponential growth for both disc golf and the PDGA. We’re looking back on a phenomenal 10 years in our Decade on Display series, where we reflect and reminisce about the sport’s successes both on and off the course. Keep an eye out for more through the end of 2019.

The article below was published on October 25th, 2017, a few weeks after then 10-year-old Ryan Quinlan, by the luck of the draw (with help from his dad), became PDGA member #100000. What’s even more remarkable than the chaotic click-race that took place is the dramatic growth that the PDGA has seen in the last decade.

In August of 2009, disc golf lost one of its greatest proponents as well as one of the greatest human beings involved in flying disc sports in general after a long battle with Langerhans’ Cell Histiocytosis. Although he was known by many as one of the founders of Innova Champion Discs, Tim Selinske is remembered by even more as a kind, loving, caring, and friendly family member, co-worker, and mentor.
