USDGC is underway!

The weather in Rock Hill, South Carolina couldn't be any better for the start of the 2011 United States Disc Golf Championship.  Crystal blue skies and cool temperatures compliment the beauty of the Winthrop Gold Course around the stunning lake at Winthrop University's Athletic Complex.

122 competitors have traveled from across the United States, Canada, and FInland to test their mettle on the Winthrop Gold Course, reknown for it's beauty, and infamous for it's miles of yellow OB rope.

The 2011 USDGC has a new format this year, it's thirteenth, where it is not just the top Pros playing, but competitors of all skill levels who will be competing not so much against the other players, but against their own personal rating.  Each player has been assigned a projected score on each hole based on their PDGA Player Rating.  Scoring on the course will be done as normal, but each player's official tournament score will be how they did compared to their projected score. (If a player is projected to score an 84 and they finish the round at 79, their official tournament score for that round will be -5) Each day a prize will be awarded to the player with the best official tournament score for that day's round, and the player with the best official tournament score across all four rounds will be declared the 2011 USDGC Champion.

And speaking of Champions, past USDGC Champions Ken Climo, Dave Feldberg, and Barry Schultz are all here hoping to play well enough to gain another USDGC title.

Although the scoring format may not be traditional, all the other traditions that have made the USDGC so special over the years remain in place.  From over 100 volunteers helping on and off the course, to Sammy Poole's Home-made ice cream, the players will enjoy the traditional USDGC experience and take home lasting memories of their time in this special place.
