Last updated: Tuesday, April 16, 2024 - 17:13

A sportsman or sportswoman is defined as someone who exemplifies sportsmanship on the disc golf course, observes the rules of play, and wins or loses with grace. The following candidates were nominated by PDGA members for acts of sportsmanship during 2023.

Jari Väyrynen #8954

Two nominations by Stina Väyrynen and Vilma Väyrynen

Awesome man, who has huge knowledge of frisbeegolf from way back. He has had a huge impact on people’s interest in frisbeegolf in his own hometown. He has organized multiple times frisbeegolf contests which has spread joy to all participants. He knows a lot of people from frisbeegolf and always get passes to play different contests because those organizers want him to play there. He always says that nowadays he isnt good anymore in frisbeegolf but for me he is still number one frisbeegolf player!

Not many people knows that Jari is the original founder of frisbeegolf carpet (Tii).

Ohn Scoggins #48976

Two nominations by Tony Sheng and Coley McNutt

Well what I have witnessed thru social media and DGN.

Ohn has the ability to influence her whole card for the better. No matter how she herself is playing - she always gives herself grace, carries herself well, and is ALWAYS cheering her card mates on. You can tell she truly loves herself, and therefore loves and cares for others so effortlessly. It would be many women's dream to play a round with Ohn just once. We all have a lot to learn from her - and I am not talking about athletic ability alone - I am also talking about her character. She exemplifies Sportsmanship.

Ava Meyer #83000

Two nominations by Mike Sullivan and Vic Allen

Ava Meyer is a consummate good sport and a constant positive presence on the course. In addition to being well-versed in the rules and possessed of excellent spirit of the game, she takes evident delight in lifting up younger competitors in the FJ divisions, whether she's handing out earnest and well-researched compliments or just cool stickers after a long round. Her commitment to keeping disc golf fun and to the highest standard of sporting ethics should be an inspiration to those of us several times her age. She has demonstrated that she deserves this award, and I have no doubt she will continue to do so throughout her disc golf career.

100% meets the definition of - "someone who exemplifies sportsmanship both on and off the disc golf course, observes the rules of play, and wins or loses with grace"
