Aussie Open: A Hint of Summer in the Middle of Winter

Aussie Open: A Hint of Summer in the Middle of Winter

Monday, December 12, 2016 - 16:01

Next year's disc golf season launches on January 26th down under in Perth, Australia, the host of the first PDGA Major of 2017. For anyone suffering from the cold, bitter chill of winter that's in need of a warm weather disc golf fix, the 2017 Aussie Open is the cure. January is mid-summer in Australia and what could be better than the warm sun, white beaches, and four rounds of championship level disc golf… in Oz!!!

The Aussie Open offers five divisions of competition. The pros can compete in Open, Open Women, or Masters and the Ams can choose from Advanced or Advanced Women. But, the Aussie Open is much more than just a competition - it’s a disc golf experience. And while attending the tournament is nice, it’s not half as incredible as sharing the experience with your disc golfing friends and families. Event organizer and founder of DUDE Clothing Chris Finn #37970 encourages players to make the trip with friends and loved ones to make a holiday out of the combined adventure. Experience Australian hospitality, exotic wildlife, and the majestic beauty of the outback in addition to playing on one of the world’s premier disc golf courses.

The host hotel at Sorrento Beach offers various accommodation options from standard hotel rooms with ocean view to two or three bedroom apartments near the beach which can be shared with large groups of people. People staying at the hotel will be able to walk out their door and be on the beach in seconds.

The opening night of the tournament also happens to be Australia Day, which is much like Fourth of July and is celebrated in a similar fashion; a day-long party which lasts well into the night with an epic fireworks display over the water. After the first day’s round, players will all head down to the river together to experience the festivities.

For those who are looking to stretch out their winter holiday for another week or two; there is a PDGA C-Tier in Thailand the week before the Aussie Open and the New Zealand Championships are being held the week after. Expand your disc golf horizons and go find disc golf culture around the world!

Registration for the 2017 Aussie Open is now underway! Head over to the Aussie Open website to reserve your spot today.
