DGPT - Chess.com Invitational — Round 2 Recap

Saturday, February 24, 2024 - 22:58

There were plenty of moves made into positions to strike for the win on Saturday in Brooksville, Florida.

Both leaderboards are as tight as can be and it is anyone’s win to take down to open the season at the 2024 Disc Golf Pro Tour — Chess.com Invitational presented by Discraft.

Ella Hansen and Holyn Handley, two close friends on the tour, are tied at the top in FPO and in prime position to take down what would be the first Elite Series win for either.

A stellar day from Missy Gannon — a course-record 7-under par at the debuting Olympus track — has her right there in the mix just one stroke back. Three more players — Eveliina Salonen, Natalie Ryan, and Henna Blomroos — are all within three strokes of the lead as the top six pulled away from the rest of the field on Saturday.

Also eyeing their first win on the Elite Series is Anthony Barela, who finds himself in a similar spot to Hansen and Handley with a one-stroke lead heading into Championship Sunday.

Right on his heels is a surging Ricky Wysocki, whose back nine heroics of six-straight birdies to finish lifted him squarely into contention with a 12-under total through two rounds.

Barela kept his spot up top with a course-record day of 7-under, matching Kyle Klein, who jumped four spots onto the lead card and two strokes back with the 1058-rated round.

Rounding out the lead card is South Carolina’s Joseph Anderson, who shook off the nerves from his first lead card on the Elite Series early and managed a 3-under round. Anderson is four back of Barela.

So many more are lurking, including Aaron Gossage (T5) and Gannon Buhr (T5), who are five strokes off the pace.

The positioning for the title is done. Now it's time for checkmate.
