Disc golf and, in turn, the Professional Disc Golf Association was experiencing record growth when Joe Chargualaf #15615 was hired as PDGA Executive Director in 2017.

In the nearly seven years since, the sport and the PDGA have quickly reached heights that, back in 2017, were merely long-term goals.

This past week, the PDGA Board of Directors accepted the retirement of Chargualaf, who first joined the PDGA in 1999 during a decades-long career in the United States Air Force.

Mary Sicard isn’t a disc golfer – yet. But that didn’t stop the Professional Disc Golf Association’s newest hire from wanting to go toe-to-toe on the course with Executive Director Joe Chargualaf, who has been playing for nearly 30 years.

“He’s going to take me out and introduce me and walk me through the sport,” Sicard said. Then she added, with a laugh: “I think I’ve already challenged Joe [to a round] at one of the meetings we’re going to be at.”

The new Executive Director of the Professional Disc Golf Association, now with just over a month officially under his belt, is quickly adapting and settling into his new position as the head honcho of the organization. Coming from an honorable background of 21 years in the United States Air Force, Lieutenant Colonel Joe Chargualaf’s enthusiasm and commitment to the sport already is and will continue to impact the members, the staff, and the Board of Directors.

Then Lt Col Chargualaf gives the ceremonial speech at the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Wind Creek Park disc golf course located on Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX.

The Board of Directors of the Professional Disc Golf Association is pleased to announce the selection of Joe Chargualaf #15615 of San Antonio, Texas, as the new Executive Director for the organization. The selection was made as a result of an extensive international search process which began in December of 2016. Over 170 candidates from both inside disc sports as well as outside professions were considered for the position.
