How To Watch The 2020 Dynamic Discs Open

DGPT restart gets a post-produced CBS Sports broadcast

Thursday, June 25, 2020 - 12:38

PDGA Elite Series play resumes this weekend with the third stop of the 2020 Disc Golf Pro Tour, The Dynamic Discs Open. Competition will take place from June 26-28 with feature and lead card coverage broadcast live on the Disc Golf Network. Coverage will begin at 2 p.m. CT each day with the MPO division, and the FPO division will join the broadcast at 4 p.m. CT.

However, instead of what has become the traditional next-day post-production coverage for the Open field, JomezPro has been hired by Dynamic Discs and the DGPT to produce four hour-long broadcasts to air on CBS Sports Network, which is available in more than 60 million households worldwide. While the specific air dates are not set, the DGPT expects them to hit the airwaves in late July or early August.

CBS Sports To Air Dynamic Discs Open

The CBS Sports project became a possibility when Dynamic Discs approached the DGPT and JomezPro with the opportunity to create a program for television. Dynamic Discs CEO Jeremy Rusco got the deal started. “We are so excited that a whole new segment of our population will see competitive disc golf for the first time,” Rusco ssid. “With so many new players trying our sport during the pandemic, it will be good to show them the serious and competitive side of disc golf as well.”

After discussion, JomezPro agreed to lead the production for Dynamic Discs. “We are honored to have the opportunity to bring disc golf to a fresh audience on such a large network,” JomezPro founder Jonathan Gomez said. “We have been working closely with CBS Sports Network to ensure that this project reaches its full potential and hopefully sets the stage for future opportunities to keep growing our sport.

Central Coast Disc Golf, who will be filming the Open division chase card, will work in association with the JomezPro team on the project. The DGPT agreed to alter the existing next-day post-production contracts of both teams to let the project move forward. “We are thrilled to work with a true disc golf production team to deliver content to a national television network,” DGPT CEO and Director Jeff Spring said.

Fans can expect the JomezPro and CCDG coverage to become available on YouTube in September.

“While this project will limit the next-day post-produced footage that is available to existing disc golf fans, the upside of putting disc golf in front of mainstream America will bring long-term benefits to the sport we all love,” Rusco said.

While the MPO shot-by-shot will be delayed, the FPO coverage will be next-day. “We are glad that the Open Women’s division will be represented in the telecast. We felt it necessary to ensure that next day post-production coverage would be available,” Spring said. GK Pro will cover the FPO side this weekend.

Live coverage from the Disc Golf Network will also remain, with small adjustments. As always, the first two rounds will be broadcast exclusively on the Disc Golf Network. Final round live coverage will be streamed for free on DGN and simulcast on the DGPT YouTube channel. Instead of being available for re-watch after the fact on the Disc Golf Network and YouTube, though, the coverage will only be available to watch live.

The DGPT media plan will shift back to both live coverage and next-day post-production for The Preserve Championship in Clearwater, Minn., from July 3-5.
