Finnon Lake

The camping is great, the course is tough, but the living is easy. Live here for a few days and you will become a Finnon Lake enthusiast. PS the first time around the course will kick you butt. My wife and I travel full time and come here every other year. Our week spent at Finnon in May is always a highlight .

One of the most difficult courses I've ever played, only pared a couple times. Two 690ft par 5's, a 640ft par 4 on 18, a 490ft par 3 on 9. As much as it is long it is technical; a spotter or a very good sense of distance and spacial awareness are necessary, you do not want to play this solo. The map signage does a good enough job of helping you find your basket but the maps look like they were made in MSpaint and not all that accurate, but it gives you a general idea of where your throwing. It's so damn far most the time you wont know where your throwing till you make it over a ridge or around a mess of trees and down a hill. They have done a great job of clearing out bad brush, looks like it had a poison oak problem but they seem to have got a handle on it. The Tee Boxes are mostly dirt, I think 2 were rubber pads, and one was a carved out old water tower with seating in it (don't worry you wont be climbing any ladders) camp sites directly past the basket on that hole. Looks like 20 or so camp sites and the course is the main attraction because the reservoir is essentially an over sized duck pond. It's a 20 hole course right now but i would advise skipping 17, you aren't missing out on anything but some mud on your shoes, an unnecessary walk, and a good chance of getting lost (even with a basic map from the cafe it was one of only two holes we got lost at). It lost half a chain rating because the par is set a little too difficult compared to the standard course distance standards for par, and the other half chain is for the $6 for the day pass parking fee, the drive out there was long enough. I'd take off another for the mediocre signage, but at least they have something, and it does a good enough job. It's a long round, bring drinks, snacks, or a full on picnic, seating is common and there are also park benches and bathrooms near hole 11 and 13.

Some courses are long, some courses are technical, this course is definatly long and technical. This course is awesome, especially after playing it a time or two. Once they refine the teepads and add some next hole signs or arrows, this will a be 5/5
